Steps on how to be prepared for final exams
The semester is finally coming to an end and work is piling up. During this time of the year, stress levels are at year long high. An important thing to do during this time is to have a schedule of how you will finish the year out and prepare for finals. The following are guidelines to prepare you for finals week.
  • Make a note of key terms and people in your notes and textbook. Consider putting this information into visual aids in order for you to remember. Practice reading and writing the items, as it will help you remember them. It is a good idea to start putting together lists early in the corse rather than a few days before exams because it will be overwhelming.
  • Make flashcards to assist you in learning important terms. This may seem elementary, but it works for all ages. You can test yourself throughout the course to maintain your knowledge.
  • Create a study guide based on your notes and any other information that will be included on the exam. You can make the guide in the form of questions. By doing this, you will be able to quiz yourself.
  • Study independently the night before the exam. Make sure you sit down and take the time to grasp the concepts so you won’t forget them once the test is in your face. Studying only in the short term is never good because you will pay for it later in the end of the semester.
  • Make sure you have all needed supplies for the exam before going to bed the night before. This may include pencils, paper, calculators, extra erasers, or any other items your instructor requires.
  • Get a good night’s sleep and have a healthy breakfast on the morning of the exam. Try doing some relaxation techniques like deep breaths or listening to music. This will help you start the exam with a calm focused mind.
Don’t drink caffeinated beverages the night before the exam. The caffeine can increase your heart rate and you may not be able to get good sleep. Not being rested the day of the exam can cause you to do a poor job no matter how much you have studied. Always remember to relax, think positively, and reassure yourself that you will do well. Have fun preparing for finals, as they are around the corner.
